Enjoying the Indian Summer

Warm sunny weather was a great start for our weekend plans. Friday afternoon, we took my Dad and Denise to Königstein, a quaint German town with an old castle on the hilltop. We had a good time walking around the castle and town.

Meanwhile, Eric was in Munich with his company. After their business meetings downtown, they proceeded to Oktoberfest to one of the tents. Even though it was warmer than usual, it did not damper the festive atmosphere.

Saturday morning we shopped at the market after Adeline attended basketball for our barbecue lunch. Everyday, I am introducing a new local food speciality and/ or sweet treat and  my parents are discovering some favorites already in two days.

Since the sun was shining and temperatures were in the low 70s, we hiked up to the church and then the biergarten in the forest. My Dad, Denise, and I climbed the Meisterturm and looked out over Frankfurt and its surrounding area. It was beautiful as the leaves have just started changing color. We returned to the biergarten for a cool refreshment.

Sunday after church, we visited Flörsheim on the Main River. It is a small town surrounded by wineries. We walked along the river and then past the town, to a small wine tasting stand. We sampled some of the area's wine while enjoying the indian summer weather with the numerous locals who had biked or walked to this area on the waterfront. The wine princess was the hostess, so the girls were happy to greet her and get their grape juice from her.

It was a holiday on Monday, so we took a train north to Limburg an der Lahn. Limburg is a beautiful old city dating back to the early 13th century and probably earlier than what some of the structures' dates display. We enjoyed strolling through the cobblestone streets and visting the gorgeous old churches. We had lunch at a tasty little restaurant before returning back to Hofheim.
